TransgenderNI provide a range of training services on trans inclusion and support for organisation across Northern Ireland. Combined with our advocacy and policy support, we can provide a holistic approach to improving the work you are doing to make your organisation more accessible to trans and questioning individuals. Our training team have extensive experience training organisations across all sectors, including statutory organisations and public authorities, schools, colleges and universities, private and public sector employers, charities and community organisations across NI and across Europe.
Trans Inclusion Training
Our longer 3-hour session covers all the major topics necessary for organisations to be aware of when supporting trans and questioning people as customers, service users or colleagues. A non-exhaustive list of topics include:
- An introduction to language and cultural competency
- About the trans community: demographics and contemporary experiences
- Common problems faced by the trans community within NI
- The relevant legislative and regulatory frameworks
- Practical advice on how best to support trans individuals
- Additional resources for organisations for supporting trans people
Our training is interactive, with opportunities for discussion, questions and exploration throughout and afterwards.
The range of organisations that we have delivered training to is vast, and has included many public sector organisations across Northern Ireland, such as health and education sector organisations, the civil service, and various government organisations. We regularly train education providers, as well as charities, and community & voluntary organisations. We also train a range of employers, big and small, in how to comprehensively support trans staff and customers.
We have packages with content specifically tailored for your organisation’s needs, including packages for:
- Health & Social Care organisations
- Sexual Health
- Education (including primary, post-primary, further and higher education, and informal education contexts)
- Service providers generally
- Community and voluntary sector organisations and community groups
Meeting your needs
We can provide a range of modifications for your organisation or team, depending on your needs.
Although our sessions require 3 hours for the best educational outcomes, we can deliver condensed awareness raising packages that deliver the major themes of the same content within a shorter time-span.
We provide all of our training materials electronically after every session, and can produce certificates either digitally or in hard-copy if required.
We can travel to you and train on your site, or you can visit one of our venues. We also host a regular community training session for interested individuals or for smaller teams that cannot have in-house training. This runs every 4th Friday of the month at the Belfast Trans Resource Centre.
If your organisation has any accessibility requirements, we’ll work with you to adapt our training to suit. Just get in touch and we’ll be happy to discuss it with you.
Some of our training team are disabled and may need step-free access. Please let us know if you have upstairs training venues without lift or step-free access.
We regularly provide detailed individualised consultancy to public, private and community/voluntary sector organisations to help them make their policy, procedures and operational practice more trans-inclusive. We also provide advice for organisations facing particular situations or scenarios with their staff, customers or service users.
